Steve Belton Ron, Thanks for the notice of Steve's passing. I wish nothing but solid prayers for his family and all our class of 67 that knew and loved him. He was truly a great friend to all he came across. He will be greatly missed.

Lynn SANTE GOODBYE TO MY BEST FRIEND  Our classmate from the Class of 1967, everyone’s friend and my best friend Steve Belton, passed away December 30th after a courageous fight with Stage 4 Pancreatic cancer. The attached picture was taken in April shortly after he was diagnosed in March (l to r Mike Field, Steve Belton, Ron Schagrin, John Rudisill).
He is survived by his wife Mary (married 48 years) daughter Aimee and her husband Josh and their two children JJ and Cameron as well as his son Jonathan and his son, Roman.
Steve was a salesman’s salesman – he never met a stranger. Regardless of the product he was selling he took an interest in the other person. That connection was the formula for his success. Whether it was insurance, security systems or car sales he loved connecting with people. But his greatest love (aside from family and friends) was University of Tennessee football.
Upon graduating from Northeast he was offered a football scholarship at the University of Tennessee at Martin. Early on, he hurt his shoulder and was not able to continue playing football. Steve transferred after his first semester to the main campus at Knoxville and graduated with a degree in education.
Every year Steve would say “wait till next year!” Well, this was the “next” year! Steve couldn’t not have been prouder of the way Tennessee played and it wasn’t until their first string quarterback got hurt he was sure that they would be in the final four for the playoffs. He had Tennessee hats, t-shirts, decals on his car, flags outside his house. There was no doubt that he bled orange.
I was very fortunate to be able to spend a lot of time with Steve during his chemo and lymphedema treatments. Steve never gave thought that he would pass away from this horrible disease and kept a positive attitude throughout.
Steve passed away peacefully at home under the care of Hospice surrounded by family and friends. He will be greatly missed by many.
May you rest in peace Steve

Christine (Cricket) LARRIMER FINALLY!!! NEHS IS GETTING NEW CLASSROOMS!!!  Nearly 7 years ago the residents of Broward County passed a referendum to issue an 800 million bond to repair schools. Northeast, Stranahan and BlanchE Ely were at the top of the list.
Promises! Promises! The current school has suffered for years with leaky roofs causing mildew and mold problems for its students. Well the day has finally arrived.
The picture is of construction workers tilting a portion of a new classroom building. Not sure what it will replace but it is estimated to be completed by October 2023. I guess "better later than never!"

Hi everyone,
WOW!!! We had some HUGE surprises show up for our lunch at the Funky Buddha Brewery on Saturday 9/3. Like people we haven't seen since reunions 25-45 years ago: Mike Brinker ’65, Gloria Lemos ’66 and Dennis Van Jaarsveld ‘66. We also got lucky that Jim McClain was in town from Maryland and decided to stay over just to see us.
Mike and Dennis both drove about three hours to come see us and Gloria lives right around the corner here in Oakland Park. It was really great to see them and catch up with what they’ve been up to for the last 25+ years!!
After the lockdown of the last 2 ½ years, everybody is seriously ready to have some fun at another NHS REUNION!!! The consensus of the group was to look sometime next summer, with mid-July being the #1 pick, followed by August and then September. We’re looking to avoid ultra-high hotel room rates and storms as much as possible.
We’re looking at doing something Friday to Sunday. Some folks said maybe a Thursday get together if enough people are in town (like we did in 2015) and also maybe a Sunday lunch picnic (BYOF&B) like reunions in 1975, 1985 and several other reunions. Any and all thoughts and input welcome.

Steve MEYER Mary Ann and Dick Cook FAU Scholarship - 2022 Update  Dear Northeast Alumni,
It has been some time since Mary Ann and I announced our intent of providing an endowed scholarship for Northeast High students to attend the College of Business at Florida Atlantic University. We immediately starting funding the endowment, so that we could see the benefits and hone the grant process while we are still alive.
I’m providing this update in hope of inspiring others to do whatever they can to increase the scholarship support for students from Northeast High. You can make a one-time gift through Northeast High School, establish an endowment at the university of your choice to be funded by your estate, or join us by adding to our endowment at Florida Atlantic University.
This generation of Northeast High students desperately needs our support. They are a diverse population of remarkable young people.
We were at FAU in Boca Raton this spring and met with our “Cook Scholars”, the Dean and Associate Dean of the Business School and the Guidance Counselor from Northeast High. We had three students present. In the group photo above are Alande Choute (Senior), James Paris (Freshman), Mary Ann, Greis Mucollari (Junior), me and Mickie Daglaris, our niece, who will make sure the program continues after we are gone. The individual photo above shows how proud our first graduate from FAU, Alande Choute, was on Graduation Day.

Please consider how you might leave your mark at Northeast. It has served us all well! We feel very blessed to be able to leave a legacy that will perpetually provide scholarships for Northeast students.

Steve MEYER Latest From Small Town Colorado  Hello former classmates. Retiring in this small town of Buena Vista Colorado has been awesome. All the wildlife that's come to our back door, living at the base of a 14'er close to town couldn't be any better.
My hubby and I will be celebrating our 50th anniversary next month with a short trip to Vegas for many shows. Should be a great time.
Had a blast attending my first reunion in 2015. Has it been decided if there will be another combined reunion anytime soon? I'd sure like to attend another one.

Byron PETRIDES OLD FRIENDS RECONNECT- MASSIVELY AWESOME WEEKEND!!! 
Hi everyone from Art Frey, Bill Springer, Steve Meyer and Kevin Finnegan:
I don’t have enough words to describe one of the most joyful experiences I’ve had in a long time on a long overdue visit to see Kevin Finnegan ’65.
There were several of us who have kept up with Kevin fairly frequently over a lot of years. Kevin is a Catholic priest (retired) who had been stationed in Gallup New Mexico for many years. We last saw him at the 1996 reunion. I last visited him in Gallup about 15 years ago.
He retired last summer and moved into a veteran’s home in Jennings Louisiana, close to where his sister lives. Over the last 7 years since the 2015 reunion, a group of us (me, Bill Springer, Tim Moon, Art Frey & Pete Byers) talked about all of us going to visit him in Gallup. AND then he moved to Louisiana, WAY closer than New Mexico.
At the beginning of 2022, I told the group it was time to fish or cut bait as we weren’t getting any younger and that we WERE going to visit Kevin this year or die trying. We finally put together a long weekend trip for last weekend (8/19). Me, Bill and Art were able to get there but unfortunately Tim and Pete couldn’t make it (we did Zoom them in on Saturday).
Friday dinner was a 3+ hour event of good steaks and lots of beer and the beginning of a magical weekend of reminiscing and great stories.
Saturday was a 10-hour orgy of looking at hundreds of Northeast High alumni photos that started in the late 60’s through the 2015 reunion and reunion videos starting in 1985. Along with hundreds of memories voiced through all our stories..... AND drinking a few beers (see cooler in picture). Sunday was a great Cajun lunch with more stories (we never seem to run out of those) followed with a very bittersweet farewell.
As I said, it was absolutely one of the best times I think we’ve all had in a while. We had HUGE laughs and yes, there were also some tears for many of our friends no longer with us.

Joan KYLLONEN Remembering Our Hurricane Sisters and Brothers It saddens me to hear of each passing of our sisters and brothers. We are all in that last phase of life, so like Steve says. "Play hard, life is short!"
I pray for all families of those classmates who have passed on. Thank you to Roger and Judy Watts for their loving tribute to David Blaine. Like my sister Dale commented, he never forgot our birthdays on April 28 since his was on April 29. He loved teasing us that we were older than him! He was a wonderful human being, and is surely missed by those who knew him!

Paul KLEIN I AM IN!! I am definitely in on the class reunion. I agree that we all could use a good laugh, some good times and share some memories.
I have always felt so blessed to have been able to go to Northeast when I did. A new school and at such a great time to start the adventure together when anything was possible and we had so much ahead of us. I am at a time in my life where things are changing. We have all lost loved ones, but at the the same time have had new life gifted to us through our grands who remind us how joyful life is.
Let's celebrate together as much as we can until the last one is standing and can toast Northeast, sing the alma mater and know that we all were given such a gift to have been together.

Chris JONES Ready for another Reunion... So enjoyed our multi-year reunion back in 2015. Haven't had a chance to attend any of the mini-reunions because we live in West Virginia.
Have participated in a Zoom Reunion for '67 that Ronnie Shagrin had for us.
So let's get the next reunion started. Life is so tenuous today and we are not promised tomorrow. We've lost so many now and we need to celebrate those of us who are still here.
Not sure what I can do to help from WV, but willing to try.

Roger WATTS Another sad loss Diane Pauli Little (Class of 66) passed away in Mountain Home, Arkansas on June 3, 2022.
I was friends with Diane from the first day of 7th grade in the portables in Mrs. Hires homeroom. I got back in touch with her through Facebook and found she was running a Dog Breeding Kennel near Jacksonville, Fl. And, of course, still had a horse or two around. She had several breeds of dogs but was best known for her prize winning papillons.
Her facebook page is still up and the business is being run by her daughter now if you want to inquire about the dogs or send a kind word...... R.I.P. my dear friend.

It’s time for some FUN news for a change!!
Here’s a picture of three NHS guys and one NHS lady who had a chance to get together for a few hours to catch up.
Can you recognize Ron Ciani (with wife Beth), Ken LaPointe (with wife Claire) and Steve Meyer and Bernadette Meyer (Maglocco)??
We had a great time with lunch and a few drinks in Ocala a couple of months ago catching up and reminiscing about some of the best years of our lives.
We’re hopefully going to get a fishing trip together in the fall and include some other NHS alums that couldn’t join us this time.
Please feel free to send me your thoughts on having another NEHS Reunion as we had planned one maybe in 2020 or 2021 but Covid killed that plan. If I get enough response, we’ll try to put something together.

Steve MEYER Tribute to our friend David Blaine Thank you Roger and Judy for that wonderful tribute into the life and heart of David Blaine. It was an honor to be a friend of his and when you were his friend , you were a friend for life. He always stayed in touch and it was wonderful to talk to him once or twice a year.
He always remembered my Birthday wiith a card and a call. As we come up on his Birthday (April 29) you are greatly missed and warmly remembered. I feel very fortunate to have been considered his friend.
Roger, as you so beautifully put it, he has gone ahead of us to to a much better place, he is pain free and with our Lord.

Nancy BONE Remembering David Blaine  Dear Friends and Family of David Blaine,
I was disappointed to see the few scanty lines in David's obituary. He was my friend and I know that many of you share the same appreciation, admiration, and love for him. Let's add a few more lines to the story.
Dave's locker was just to the right of mine at Northeast and when we bumped into each other from time to time we would laugh and say that maybe we would grow up to be neighbors someday. While that did not happen we have stayed in touch and shared many stories across the years.
Dave was one of the warmest and most tender hearts among the guys in the class of '65. He never had a bad word about anyone and was always ready to listen, care, and share a word of encouragement and hope. I remember his broad smile, deep chuckle, and the twinkle in his eyes as he viewed his world with amazement and amusement.
When Judy and I dropped out in '64, Dave would call or come by the grocery store where I worked to check on me. He from time to time would take me out for a cup of coffee at Garden Drugs and would keep me up to date on things at school.
Then we were out of touch until a reunion. We sat at the same table once more and resumed the conversation and had a great time catching up.
Dave and I shared some experience in the retail grocery business. He stayed in the trade most of his life. Dave was an expert merchandiser of fresh fruit and vegetables. If you know the language of the business you can say with me that Dave could "Run a great rack." Dave was an excellent manager of his staff, created a collaborative team inside the store, and fine community relations outside.
Dave was especially close to the underprivileged community and was creative in dealing with perfectly good food that looked distressed and therefore unsellable. The poor of his vicinity benefitted from his bargain prices and at the same time, the store did not waste good food in the dumpster. Dave understood human relations and used his gift well for the benefit of his fellow workers and customers. This gift far surpassed slick political correctness; it came from his humble spirit and his heart of gold.
In this context, Dave enjoyed telling the story of visiting a restaurant in the community where he ate several times some of the 'reduced-price' produce, prepared 'real-soul-Southern-style' by a fine woman who would not let Dave pay. Well, she did not know it, but when Dave ate for free, the next batch of vegetables she took to the diner came with an extra discount that Dave covered out of his own pocket.
Dave loved his classmates and would call your names as we talked. Sandy and Nancy, Dale and Gale, Roger and John, just to name a few.
Judy and I dropped by for lunch with Dave last summer in Nicholasville (see attached picture). We ate some Sonny's BBQ in his home there and laughed and cried and tried to tell a bigger lie than the other. Did I say he loved to laugh? A few months ago his phone went dead and I could not reach him by email. He had said that he was moving from his 'house on the hill' to a more accessible place. Dave was a wheelchair guy last summer. I thought he would be in touch after he settled in a new spot.
I could not hold my tears as Judy told me of Steve's message. Thank you for all of your fine work, Steve. Yes, I know I will see him again. Besides all of the trade talk and BS we enjoyed, we also shared a faith in our Lord Jesus, a faith that does not die. I look forward to that day.

I was very lucky to have seen Sandy and David at our 2015 reunion. I was also very lucky to have seen Daryl and Vito in High Point, NC in May of 2016. Chris JONES So Sorry... I was so sorry to read about the loss of Patty. She was such a force of nature and one of the happiest people I have every known. She had such a kindness and loving nature that she spread around to everyone. I so loved her hugs and her words of encouragement to all she met.
Her faith was also such a driving force for her. I will so look for her, God willing, when I change my address. I will take her with me in my heart until she and I can hug again.

Lynn SANTE The energy of a hurricane Patty was a hurricane in every sense of the word except destruction. She blew into every room and caught everyone's attention with her unmistakable voice, infectious laugh and inexhaustible energy. She became my friend when I first transferred to Northeast and was feeling a little lost. In a few weeks I had a safe place, new friends and the beginning of great times because she took me under her wing. So it began: football games, swim team, Civinettes and so many fun nights.
We continued our friendship through Patty and Kurt's wedding, eventual babies and beach get togethers whether in Florida or New Jersey and most recently reunions. I can't accept that that energy has run out. I miss her every day and I'm sending my love to her family and all her friends who have lost her.

Susan CONNOLLY GOODBYE PATTY SUE  It is with a tremendous sense of loss for all of us that I let you all know that Patty Hickman (Hoffmeyer) Class of’65, our beautiful “Dancing Queen”, Football Queen and most talented lead Drum Majorette has gone to God to join her awesome parents. I guarantee you she has already organized God’s band and the majorettes.
She was one of my oldest friends from when we met in the 5th grade in 1957 at Bennett Elementary. Being the wise guy I am, I nicknamed her “Patty Sue” as the old Buddy Holly song Peggy Sue had come out that summer. She loved it that I continued to use that nickname over the 64 years we remained good friends.
We’ve had 5 NHS reunions starting in 1975 and Patty did her Majorette baton twirling routine at EVERY reunion just like she did for all of the NHS football games for 3 years. AND she wore the SAME uniform from high school!! Amazing, she was 69 years young at her last performance!! Patty was an absolute force of nature, with the most awesome infectious smile and personality. She treated everyone the same with warmth and honesty, just being herself. Patty Sue truly “never met a stranger”. Everyone that she ever met loved her and she returned that love tenfold.
Patty and Curt were married almost 54 years and I always remembered the date because it was 1 day after my birthday. They raised 2 very amazing daughters, Tiffany and Judy, who proceeded to marry 2 outstanding men and combined to give Patty 5 grandchildren who were the absolute center of her world. Every time we talked I got the update on all of them and it was a huge joy to listen to her talk about them.
The many, many memories of all of the great times Bernadette and I had with Patty will be with us until we meet up again. Thank you Patty Sue so very much for enriching our lives and being a great friend. I will miss you greatly until we see you again. You will forever be remembered.
CELEBRATION OF LIFE
Her family is celebrating the life and love of Patty at her daughter’s house. She always told us when she died she didn’t want a funeral but a celebration. She also wanted everyone to wear Yellow at the Celebration.
There will be several NHS alumni there and we’d LOVE to see any of our other classmates to tell Patty stories with so let me know if you’re going..

On Feb. 29th, 2020 Jack went to heaven after battling lung cancer. Jack and I would have been married 50 years one month after he died. We have 2 daughters and 4 grandchilren. He was a Vietnam Veteran, loving husband and devoted father and grandfather. Thank you for this opportunity to share his story.

Jack EASTER HAPPY 4TH OF JULY  Hello fellow classmates. A few years ago, I met a disabled Marine that had custom made a 6'x9' distressed American battlefield flag for the nearby Harley Davidson store in Scottsdale, Arizona. I was so impressed by the craftsmanship and elated to learn that the Marine lived locally. He invited me to his shop and I custom ordered a smaller version at 4'x6' for the foyer of my residence. Like me, the marine's Father was a Vietnam veteran and we had a good time, swapping war stories. The enclosed photo was taken six months ago while I was on vacation in France, Italy and Switzerland.

Martin LENIHAN SMALL WORLD????? YOU BE THE JUDGE......  So I'm on a motorcycle trip, which is long overdue because of COVID-19, with a friend up to Medina Ohio to pick up a new bike I purchased & on our return we're going to meet two other friends in Marlinton West Virginia. We plan on two days of riding all the curvy/scenic back roads West Virginia has to offer & there are many. It comes time to leave & we decide to take a curvy/scenic road, Hwy 311, down out of West Virginia into Virgina & have breakfast somewhere along the way.
We arrive in Paint Bank Virginia (pop 42), which is conveniently located in the middle of nowhere, & decide to eat at the Swinging Bridge Reataurant which is located inside the Paint Bank General Store. I noticed a huge map of the U.S. on the wall with pins in different cities from people who have passed through. I ask the manager, Melissa Bellassai, for a pin so I could stick it in Lake City Florida as there were none. She advised me that she was also from Florida & when I asked where she replied "Ft. Lauderdale". What are the chances?
I then asked her what high school & she replied "Northeast." WHAT! ARE YOU KIDDING ME HERE? It turns out that Melissa Lyle, as she was known back then, was in the 1990 class. But it gets better, as her father William Lyle was in the 1966 class & we knew each other. The icing on the cake is that her mother Patricia Sheetz was in the 1969 class. All this in a town out in the middle of nowhere with a population of 42.
Unbelievable!!! I told her I'd have to post this on our reunion site. If William & Patricia are reading this allow me to congratulate you on a job well done with your wonderful daughter. Add to that.... the service & food were excellent at the Swinging Bridge Reataurant, which by the way has a swinging bridge inside. If you're ever in the area stop in & say hey.

Lynn SANTE MINI REUNION UPDATE  Our "mini-reunion" at the Waterway Cafe in West Palm was great! Perfect weather, Waterway Cafe was outstanding and those in attendance had another fantastic time reminiscing with former classmates. Again, the class of '67 wins for the highest attendance with the class of '66 a close (?) second. Unfortunately, no representation from the class of '65 -- they gotta do better next time! Also, the class of '67 gets the recognition for having a classmate travel the furthest distance to attend -- Pete Wright, all the way from Dallas, TX. Way to go, Pete!!!

Diane Foisy, although she didn't graduate from NEHS, transferred to another school in 9th-10th grade but still retains contact with & fond remembrances of her former classmates going all the way back to elementary school. She's still a part of our history and we welcome her with open arms!
Everyone attending had a great time and we're all looking forward to the next one, hopefully sometime this fall (or sooner...?) We even had discussions where we may look into a short day-cruise to the Bahamas in the future. And as always, we're open to suggestions on other venues or activities for future get-togethers! Lynn STEVENS CELEBRATING BILL WHITE  On Septemer 8th over a 100 of Bill's family, friends, former classmates and former students gathered in Pompano to pay tribute to a great guy. Many of us heard stories about his character, kindness and concern for others that were very moving.
Especially important were a large group of former students and kids he had coached. The consistant theme from all of them: "he cared about me and instilled some basic values that stayed with me my whole life".
The NHS group had a great time reliving memories of Bill that also helped us realize how lucky we all were to still have some bonds that are 60 years strong. In the attached picture are:

Steve MEYER REMEMBERED Mid 1964,Fort Pierce inlet, North side,about 7:00 am,waves glassy about 3 to 4 feet. I rode one in and turned and watched Bill catch one..... in the same wave about 20 feet behind him was a shark riding the same wave. You could see the silhoutte with the sun shining behind it. The thing that Struck me about Bill was the time and effort he spent with his students and athletes while teaching. Heard about some of the great things he did for young kids. I believe he is rewarded for the good he did.

Byron PETRIDES CAPTAIN WHITEY'S LAST FISHING TRIP  It's with deep regret that I tell you that Bill White ("Whitey") has become a mate in the big crew of the Fisher of Men. He left us on August 2nd in Ft. Lauderdale to begin a new journey. The family had a private service and is having a Celebration of Life September 8th (see info below).
I don't have enough space here to tell you what a good friend he was to me and many other Northeasters'. He was a big part of all the fun we had in high school and on many fishing and surfing trips. I'm so glad I had the opportunity to be with him at the 2015 reunion to relive some of the best times of our lives.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family- son Marcus White, daughter Heather Boremi-White, former wife Arlene Marcus and long time companion Karen Melnick. Steve MEYER MINI REUNION FUN!!!  To those of you that missed our "Mini-Reunion" this last Saturday in Jupiter, you missed a great time! We had all three classes represented!!!
Much thanks to the alumni that attended (L to R in picture): Aaron Eferstein '67, Raymond (Skip) thompson '67, Nora (Colburn) Larsen '67, Al Poarch '66, Mike Cicci '67, Arleda (Summers) Brown '67, Pam (Price) Holland '67, Jim McClain '65, Bill Bender '66. Yes, the Class of '67 won the attendence record!!!
Some came from quite a distance to attend: Skip & Lori from Naples, Pam from St. Augustine, Nora from Ocala and Jim from Maryland (he was in the area and said "I'm in")!! Kudos also to Aaron & Linda from Vero, Bill from Sebastian and Mike from Wellington! We all had fun reminiscing things from back in the 60's and discovering that we had many friends in common back then. It was great catching up with old (no pun intended!) friends!
When I asked if we wanted to get together again in the not-too-distant future, everyone said "Count me in"! So we WILL be doing something like this again, and we're open to suggestions regarding locations and dates. Don't miss the next one! (Remember, ain't none of us gettin' no younger...!).

Anyway, I try to go to the YMCA here in town three times a week at least 1 to 2 hours each time. I have issues with my knees so this helps a lot. Be safe and exercise as much as possible. Have a good week. God bless everyone.

Sandra BATTLE GET HEALTHY FOR THE 55th REUNION!!  I would like to see everyone at the 55th reunion. Keeping in good health will help accomplish this so I am challenging everyone to get in shape and get healthy. We all need at least three and a half hours of exercise a week and this does not include doing leg lifts from your La-Z-Boy recliner or curls with the remote control or a beer can.
I work out in the gym for an hour 3 times a week and golf twice a week walking the course. Now, everyone does not have a friend with a gym like I do who lets me in before he opens to the public. Dust off that stationary bike or treadmill and start today. My workout consists of 40 minutes of aerobic excercise which is really aerobic dance and 20 minutes with free weights. Byron PETRIDES ONE HECK OF A DAY  I have mixed emotions about being the first to post something after Terryt's departure especially since mine is of a silly nature. Its hard to believe he has been gone almost 6 months already. I know when I pass it will only affect my family but his passing affected an entire community which tells you what kind of man he was. He was just one of our many NHS alumni that made their mark on the world. A man among men as the saying goes.
I have always raced motorcycles on the street but I finally took an instructional course at a motorcycle only racetrack in Jennings Florida (Jennings GP). The track is 2 miles (1 lap) with 14 turns. Don't know why I waited so long as it was so much fun it should be outlawed. 7 classroom sessions & 7 track sessions which gave me 110 miles of racing & although coming close I had no accidents. I cannot wait to go back again.
The GREAT thing about racing on a track is there are no worries about an SUV coming into your lane as you go around a curve, not to mention sand or gravel in the middle of a curve & of course no one is texting.
Racing against people half my age & less I did quite well & although more people passed me than I passed them I don't believe anyone had as big as smile as I did. Upon returning home I told Linda that although the Honda Racing Team didn't approach me for a sponsorship I believe I'm in the running for one with Geritol.
As a "Retirement Specialist" at no where special I took the following day off to practice the art of doing nothing.

At our last reunion, Terry sponsored a golf outing at Coral Ridge Country Club and treated all of us to a hilarious afternoon followed by a lovely lunch. John SCHLEGEL CLASS OF '66 MICRO REUNION  The smallest reunion possible; Steve Evans and Steve Forstner met at Two Wheels of Suches Motorcycle Campground in the North Georgia Mountains. The weekend consisted of great motorcycle rides through NC, SC, GA, and TN mountains followed by Bourbon and cigars. The highlight of the trip was watching the eclipse on Monday directly under the path for the full nightfall experience.
Looking forward to meeting for more epic rides and hope some more classmates who ride will join us.

Byron PETRIDES ECLIPSE HEADS UP if you are intending on heading to Clayton for the eclipse be aware the crowds are expected to be very large. We are in Highlands and are expecting somewhere between 25,000 to 50,000 visitors on Monday. Food service companies will not be delivering to the area possibly all weekend including Monday. Businesses and clubs are being told to have workers onsite no later than 6:30 AM. There is discussion that some of the roads off the mountain will be turned into one way in the afternoon. Plan ahead.

Wally PATZKE, JR. ROUTE 66 TRIP Hey Ya'll, if any of your are planning a trip on old Route 66 be sure to go through St. Louis, MO first and make a stop at the famous "Ted Drewes" Frozen Custard shop. A huge place very famous and almost always people lined up waiting to get theirs. I was taken there by my aunt one time on a visit back to St. Louis and it was amazing to be on Route 66 again.

Lynn SANTE ADVENTURES  Excellent story Bob & with good humor also. I shall have to check out that mountain bike trail in Virginia. To go along with your motorcycle story, I remember Bill Springer had a Vespa, silver & black I believe, & he seemed to twist that throttle quite well. The scare of my life was when Art Warren took me up to Pompano High for a track meet on the back of his candy apple red Cushman. Art went on to race cars ...... need I say more. Joel Miller has a story about Art & his Cushman also.
As for you Ken I believe that should be a GREAT trip. I have been on Old Route 66 in four different states & parts of it are very interesting. You should purchase a Chevy Corvette Convertible as they had in the TV series - 1962 or somewhere around there. If possible be sure to stop at the "Standing on the Corner Park" in Winslow Arizona & the Snow Cap Drive Thru in Seligman Arizona. I believe you'll enjoy them both.
Because of this eclipse event a few of us have connected & one person is Steve Forstner (66). Upon retirement he took a two month adventure on a motorcycle with a buddy across the US of A & they made it, among many other places, up to the Arctic Circle in Alaska. This was in the summer of 2014. He has a blog of his trip which I'm now reading & I find it extremely interesting & very well written. if you're interested you can find it at klondikebikes.wordpress.com. He will be staying at the same motorcycle campground that I'll be at so we'll be able to do some curves together. Gary Spohn also plans to come & he will be with some others also. God forbid there's a thunderstrom that day. :-(
Remember - the object in life is to die young ............................ just make sure its as late as possible.

Stephen EVANS MOTORCYCLE MOUNTAIN CLIMBING My congrats to Steve Evans for his enduring adventurous spirit. The last time I was on a two-wheel motorized vehicle was 1962. It was Larry Campbell's Vespa, and I wiped out going 11 miles an hour around a curve on N.E. 16th Avenue.
I also plan to do the Appalachian Trail - on bicycle! In August my oldest son and I will bike the Virginia Creeper Trail, which joins up with the AT for a mile or so. The Creeper Trail is 18 miles long and it's all downhill. Now that's the way to do mountain biking!
Alas, my whitewater rafting days are over. Last summer my two sons and I took duckies down the Nantahala in North Carolina, well known for it's mild rapids. I fell in three times. The last time I flipped I was on the only Class III rapid on the entire run. The feeling was mildly similar to that which I experienced in 1962 on Larry's Vespa. Perhaps a little more panicky.
Undeterred, we soldier on with our adventures, in whatever fashion we shall choose.

Sandra BATTLE TOTAL ECLIPSE ADVENTURE  Did a little two week, 5,942 mile, motorcycle trip out west. Was able to ride to the summit of Sandia Crest (NM), Pikes Peak & Mt. Evans (both in CO). Yes with a name like MT. Evans it was a no-brainer.
As you get up to & above 12,000 feet on Pikes Peak & Mt. Evans it starts getting down to 35 degrees, the wind blows at a good pace which tends to push you around on a bike, the road becomes very technical with switchbacks that are extremely tight & steep. Then add to all that the fact there are no GUARDRAILS & you may, as I did, ask yourself ............... exactly why is that I'm still here? :-) But all was good.
Next June I plan on going back to Alaska again. One of the things I want to see is our reunion sign (picture of it near the bottom of this Message Board page) that was hung in the Sign Post Forest in Canada's Yukon Territory right before the 2015 Reunion. I have just purchased a new adventure bike for the trip as I'll be going further into Alaska north of the Arctic Circle up to Prudhoe Bay & the Arctic Ocean. In many places where I'll be there will be no services of any kind & no paved roads - just dirt. Should be an excellent adventure.
I have what may be a good idea to throw out there. These good ideas rarely come to me & this may be the only one I have for the rest of the year so listen up. May I remind everyone of the TOTAL eslipse coming on Monday August 21st. The eclipse should begin (in Clayton) at 1:06pm and ends at 6:06pm, with the total eclipse on for only 3 minutes at 2:35pm-2:38pm. The area of the total eclipse should be 70 miles wide as it passes across the United States from west to east. I believe Nashville & Columbia S.C. will also be excellent places. I just chose north Georgia because I want to ride the roads before & after.
An excellent place to see it will be in Clayton Georgia in the north (east) Georgia Mountains. Maybe a chance to meet & greet as some of us did in Greensboro North Carolina in May of 2016. I believe there are many who live within 100-150 miles of Clayton. I already have a cabin at a motorcycle campground & I've ordered my glasses so I'm ready.

In light of the recent cancellation of the “Reunion Cruise” in October, Ron Schagrin and I thought that maybe there would be interest in having a reunion here in Fort Lauderdale. We have heard from a few people that they would be willing to help in putting together a simple but fun get together.
If there are ten people willing to have a 50-year reunion, we can easily find a restaurant that will accommodate us. The higher the response, we simply move it to a different venue. Some dates to consider: September 9th or 16th, October 7th or 14th. We can follow the format of the three-class reunion in 2015—Thursday night meet at a bar and just socialize. Friday, we can find a casual restaurant and have some form of buffet and then Saturday night we can put on our best and have a nice sit-down dinner.
Here is the biggest problem: there are a lot of our classmates whose email addresses are not in the three-class master directory. Ron and I know at least five or more people that we stay in touch with or know their whereabouts that we can add to the list. If you know someone, let us know as we want to include as many people as possible in this celebration.

While attending Northeast Jr. High I used to ride a motorcycle to school. I was 14 back then. Now at age 69 it's time to play that tune again. I am riding with an expat motorcycle club that takes a day ride every other Thursday. The photo above was taken last Thursday (3/16/17) on our 350km mountain ride.

Marcia MARCHO Appalachian Trail  I haven't hiked or camped out on the Appalachian Trail since the summer of 1977 when I was living in Atlanta. Many things have changed since then including the old body but I just did 3 different section hikes on 3 different trails in the north Georgia mountains this past week & all was good, in fact it was excellent. Had a wonderful time & met many a "thru hiker" some of which were going the 2200 miles to Maine with their dog.
Linda & I plan to section hike the A.T. this summer & again in October so this was kinda like a "shakedown" hike. In another year it will be time to get the grandsons out on the trail. Our job as grandparents, in my opinion anyway, is to make memories for/with our grandchildren. What better way than to take them hiking & camping out in the wilderness.
My recommendation you ask? Whatever adventure you're thinking about, chase after it with abandon. What say you? What's in your memories?

Tim MOON AGING JOCKS GATHER  Is this a great picture or what!!!
Two weeks ago there was a call for aging, over the hill S. Florida jocks to gather in Jackson, GA. The only people that answered the call were Bill Springer ('65) and Gary (Spook) Spohn ('66).
Evidently Jackson is the center of the universe for old car restoration as Spook has a 1929 Ford coupe, an old Spitfire and several other oldie goldies he's restored. The word is they did lots of reminiscing about their many exploits, both on and off the football field. They especially remembered the sobering up part at the Egg and You.
They probably left out the part where Steve Meyer and Russ Austin had to rescue them from the bullies on the beach. Or the part where Springer, Meyer, Austin, et al, slept outside the Publix at Federal and Oakland on Saturday mornings waiting for the manager to open up at 7am.

Christine (Cricket) LARRIMER MARGARET (PEGGY) WHITTON What a sad day for those of us who knew Margaret, or as she was known in high school, Peggy. It was obvious that she was going to be a star and we all knew it in high school.
She has the lead in our Junior class play - Diary of Anne Frank and again she had the lead in the Senior class play - the Miracle Worker. Many of us knew that when she left high school she went to Broadway and the obituary that Steve sent out described her Broadway experience.
The Secret of My Success gave us all the opportunity to tell all our friends and family - "I went to high school with that girl". Then the Major Leagues movies gave us more to brag about. Never missed an episode of her in Good and Evil with Terri Garr. She will be missed!
May she be remembered for all that joy that she brought to those of us that knew her and to those who only knew her from her stage, TV and film career.

Henry (Andy) ANDERSON Mentor and friend For four years I was privileged to be in Ms. Wood's Spanish classes, something I looked forward to every day. As the only teacher at Northeast who was able to pronounce my last name, she made an impression on me from day one! Because of the laidback ease in which she conducted her classes, she became my role model when I, too, became - wait for it! - a Spanish teacher! For my 33 years as a high school teacher, hardly a day went by that I didn't think of her and mentally thank her for the role she played in my life. ¡Qué descanses en paz, Señorita!
Rayanne PERLINGERO Dedicated and kind Miss Woods was the one teacher I had every year at NHS. She recognized our strengths and our youth. Although she could name someone "La Tortuga", no one ever felt that it was done out of anything but love. I think she loved her job, kids and our high school. I'm happy to hear she enjoyed her life and sad to know she's gone.
Susan CONNOLLY Definitely one of the finest teachers! I truly admired Miss Woods. I wasn't the best Spanish student and probably gave her more trouble than she ever deserved (Upshut the boca Senorita Bloom! Por Favor!) but she was always there for me during challenging times. It was wonderful seeing her and speaking with her briefly at the reunion. Her kind heart touched many. Her wonderful life a true example of a life well lived.
Joan BLOOM WONDERFUL LADY I'm sad to hear this news as I imagine we all are. I remember being in her class when JFK was shot & I remember her crying as we got the news. I was lucky enough to have a very nice conversation with her at our reunion & I thought she looked great. I'm happy for her as it seems she lived a full & active life exploring as many roads as she could. As we live on this rock that rotates around the sun we cannot ask for more. God Bless her family.
Stephen EVANS Adios, Senorita Woods Shirley Woods was a joy to be around...and, although I did not have her as a classroom teacher, as my homeroom teacher she helped me with just a tad bit of Spanish! Thank you, Miss Woods. So glad we were able to visit a bit last year.
Christine (Cricket) LARRIMER SHIRLEY WOODS PASSING  We lost one of our beloved teachers October 23.
I know my wife (Bernadette Maglocco) and I will always remember her from 10th grade Spanish. She gave me a nickname that Bernadette still uses: "La Tortuga" (turtle) as in Esteban La Tortuga, because I was a little slow. She said I was lucky Bernadette sat in front of me as that was the only way I passed the class.
She attended our class reunion last year and had a blast, as did all of us that interacted with her.
Shirley Anna Woods, 84, passed away Sunday, October 23, 2016. A long-time resident of Fort Lauderdale, she was born on June 19, 1932 in Rockford, IL. She held a BA degree from Principia College in Elsah, Illinois, an MA degree from Florida Atlantic University, and a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) degree from Nova Southeastern University. A highly regarded educator in Broward County, she was a teacher, Dean of Girls, and then Assistant Principal at Northeast High School in Fort Lauderdale, over a period of 30 years. She touched and uplifted many lives, and many of her students, both boys and girls, credited her with inspiring them in life. She retired in 1989, and her retirement days were spent attending workshops, traveling, writing, and doing volunteer work. A world traveler, she and her long-time friend and traveling companion, Jackie Barber, traveled to 107 different countries. In 2012, Shirley moved to John Knox Village, where she resided at the time of her death. Shirley is survived by her brother, David Koontz and his wife Connie Barnhart Koontz, her niece, Krista Koontz Martinelli and her husband Joe Martinelli and their children, Stella and Paul, and a host of friends. A memorial service will be held at John Knox Village Chapel/ Auditorium, at 3pm on Wednesday, November 9, 2016 for Shirley and other residents who have passed away in October, 2016. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Shirley's memory to the John Knox Village Foundation (651 S.W. 6th Street, Pompano Beach, FL 33060) or to the charity of your choice.

Steve MEYER PROPOSED MINI-REUNION At a cost of $600,000, a half-size replica of the Vietnam War Memorial is being constructed in myhometown: Punta Gorda, FL. The Wall features a polished granite surface that closely resembles the original in Washington, D.C. Construction of the Wall is nearly finished and the dedication is planned for November 5, 2016, the Saturday before Veteran’s Day.
I sneaked a look at the wall last week. I ignored the no trespassing signs and construction site warnings. I want to tell you...I was really moved. Seeing all those names inscribed on the Wall was a very emotional experience for me. I’m sure many of you can relate to what I’m talking about.
The Vietnam War had a personal impact on all of us who graduated from high school in the 1960’s. I was really impressed with all the messages Northeast High School alumni sent in to our website last Memorial Day to salute those who have served. Those messages at the Wall inspired me with the following idea:
I propose to host a “mini-reunion” in Punta Gorda the weekend of the dedication of the Wall. We have a number of NHS grads living within an hour or so drive to Punta Gorda. As for all you townies who never moved out of Broward and Palm Beach counties - or recently moved back - you’re looking at a short couple hour drive across Alligator Alley or across the state.
Punta Gorda has some nice hotels with beautiful views of the Peace River and Charlotte Harbor. Many hotels are offering special rates that weekend for folks who mention they are coming for the Wall dedication. Although Punta Gorda is a quiet, laid back small town, we boast some decent restaurants and a unique tourist/shopping attraction called “Fisherman’s Village.” There are 8-10 very good restaurants and hotels within walking distance of Laishly Park, site of the memorial.
The dedication ceremony is scheduled for 10 AM the morning of November 5th. Following the dedication, I propose we gather for lunch at a nearby eatery. In the afternoon my Bluegrass band is performing at the History Park in Punta Gorda, about two miles from the location of the Wall. In the evening, those who are interested can continue to get together at local establishments. Here’s a tentative schedule for Saturday, November 5th:
10:00 AM – Vietnam Memorial Wall dedication – Laishley Park
11:30 AM- 1:30 PM- Lunch at Laishley Crab House (or other venue TBD)
2:00 PM- 4:30 PM- Southwind Bluegrass Band concert at the Punta Gorda History Park
6:00 PM- 8:30 PM- Dinner at one of the restaurants within walking distance of Laishly Park
9:00 PM- ??????- Meet at the Rooftop Bar at the Wyvern Hotel
I have already heard from several alumni that have said they're probably coming. Why don't you all join us for a great "mini-reunion and also take an opportunity to honor those of us that have given the ultimate sacrifice for their country. I would LOVE to see any and all NHS alumni that weekend.

William BRANNOCK 2016 NORTH CAROLINA MINI REUNION  In May (Friday the 13th no less) we had a wonderful mini reunion in Greensboro, NC with folks from all 3 classes. Much thanks to Christy Jones and Shirley (McCartney) Skelton for helping get people together and getting Bernadette and I from the airport to Ruby Tuesday's.

Both of these wonderful teachers and true Patriots also had the same effect on me... to this day, I choose the Conservative Constitutionalist platform because of all that we were taught during American History and Civics.
I feel so very sorry that our students today are not receiving this same AMERICAN EDUCATION that we did... our country is the best and we were so privileged to have been a part of a great generation that was taught by THE GREATEST GENERATION!!!

These two guys had a profound influence on my development. They taught great courses that solidified my Conservative Constitutionalist bent.

Michael DAVIS MEMORIAL DAY Bruce Timmons would have graduated with us in 1965 but he quit school to join the Navy. He died at 19 on a swift boat in VN at age 19. RIP to Bruce and all others who gave all.
Almost three years from the date of our HS graduation I ran into my friend and classmate Mike Davis at Utapoa RTNAS Thailand. He was due to return to the US in a few days but we manged to have a good visit before he left for Minot AFB.

Bob MOSER HONORING MEMORIAL DAY
Some of you might recognize Bill Maynard on the right (NHS '68), retired from the Pembrook Pines Police Department and he now works for the Seminole Police Department). His twin brother, Bob, retired from the Broward Sheriffs Office. I was completing my one year tour in Vietnam and Bill had just arrived. We had to pretend we were cousins so I could visit him at his base camp in the Central Highlands. There was a policy, that soldiers with less than 30 days remaining on their tour in Vietnam, were to stay in the base camp. It was best to meet your demise at the beginning of your tour than at the end. Looking back, it probably wasn't the smartest decision I have made in life but that is what lifelong friendships are all about. Can you see the family resemblance. We were both emotional when I had to leave. I want to thank the people in our armed forces and the duty they perform for our country and to everyone that has served this great company. This is a great weekend of celebration for our military and God Bless America.

Joan BLOOM MEMORIAL DAY Memorial Day, this special day is meant to mention and think about those people whom have gone to the next level and have been instrumental in making us better human beings in making this place called Earth a better place. I have to thank my classmates and teachers at Northeast High School in my maturation. My Parents Grant & Helen Turnbull who gave their love and teaching through difficult times how couples fight through the problems of survival of their children’s learning curve.

John SCHLEGEL MEMORIAL DAY BLESSINGS I would like to third what Steve said about remembering our service members on Monday. I come from a military family, my father serving in WWII as a Naval Lieutenant JG, my husband a Marine Vietnam vet with three purple hearts, my brother Navy and my son Navy.
So many people take our freedon for granted, and when people say freedom isn't Free they are absolutely correct. My good friend Linda Lafford spearheads an organization for Quilts of Valor to see that all wounded vererans get a handmade quilt to show they are loved and appreciated and can have something to snuggle under and remember they are not forgotten. So if any of you Hurricanes out there get an opportunity to donate to a QOV, monetary donation, or fabric donation to one please do so. It will warm your heart. I've made three quilts and have given one in person to the VA hospital in Denver CO for a PTSD graduate.

Steve MEYER Major Jaquelyn Rounds Civil Air Patrol  This is my picture in uniform at a condo Association Board Meeting. In January of this year I graduated from the United States Air Firce Command and Staff College via computer. This was the same program given to Air Force,Army, Marine Majors and Naval Lt. Commanders.
I first learned about Civil Air Patrol while at NE Junior High. Yes that's right Junior High. Then Junior Senior High then Senior High. For some reason even then I was promoted every year, for about 4 years I was always in the lowest class LOL. Even though I didn't graduate with my class, I did recieve 2 associates degrees in Illinois and a BA from Sangamon State University. Now U of IL Springfield.

Tim MOON 2016 SPRING BREAK MINI REUNION  Well, this was the first post-reunion gathering back at the scene of the crime at Bokampers in Ft. Lauderdale and we had a great time in April (yes, I'm a little late but you know how it is when you're this old---you have severe CRS).

Lori FILL FSU ON THE REVENGE TRAIL...........  As hard as it is to believe, FSU lost to Team Gator AND Team Hurricanes (as usual with U of M, they had highly questionable, possibly illegal players) in the Corn Hole Tournament at the 50th Reunion. HOWEVER, the UM loss has been avenged with a 29-24 thrashing of the Hurricanes in October.

Paul issued this challenge to me a couple of months before the reunion and volunteered to bring the Corn Hole gear. He's also the guy that wore his fingers to the bone making about a 100+ of the Hurricane Spirit Dolls (I'm wearing one in the pix below). Can't tell you how much gratitude I have for his contributions for helping to make the reunion the best ever.
That being said, unfortunately for the Noles Corn Hole team they were overwhelmed by a clearly more talented Gator team and a U of M team of questionable character. For the Gator-FSU gridiron game this Saturday, some questions remain:
For the Noles: which quarterback will be out of jail and is the team that lost to Georgia Tech not allowed on the field?
For the Gators: Will the midget quarteback be able to see over the offensive linemen to have a passing game? Which team shows up: the one that thrashed then #4 Ole Miss or the one that just barely beat FAU in OT?

Gretchen HARRIS ALUMNI PASSING I was doing some research on an old friend of mine to see if I could locate him and I was successful. I am sad to say however that it was about one year too late.
For those of you who remember Dave Guidos ('66), he passed away from cancer on October 28th of last year. He and his wife Janet had two daughters and were living in Flat Rock North Carolina since the early 1980's.
If you remember him, Dave was loads of fun and his wife said he was that way throughout his entire life. He and Janet were married for 45 years.
Janet said he was a wonderful man and husband. He was also a Vietnam Veteran.

Stephen EVANS WISH WE COULD HAVE BEEN THERE  First, I want to explain why we did not attend the reunion. My wife, Connie Miller Class of '65, and I have three grandchildren who live in California. We only get to see them three times each year. One of those times is their visit to our lake house during the first two weeks of August. Unfortunately, we had to choose between spending time with the grandchildren and attending the reunion. The grandchildren won.
Connie and I have been married for nearly 48 years. During that time, I have spent my career in law enforcement. Starting as a Fort Lauderdale police officer and ending as a special agent with the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction in Afghanistan from May 2011 thru June 2013. I had various stops along the way including retiring as the Director of Strategy & Planning for IRS Criminal Investigation and Director of Special Investigations for Virginia DMV, a unit started to deal with the events of 9-11. I volunteered to come out of retirement and go to Afghanistan to try to find what happened to the reconstruction funds. Besides being mentally challenging, it was physically challenging climbing in and out of helo’s and MRAP’s with soldiers one third my age and sleeping with an M6 machine gun next to me. It was an eye opening experience despite the rocket attacks and living under the threat of IED’s. After my stint in Afghanistan, Connie and I retired to our lake house on Lake Norman in North Carolina to live the good life and enjoy our two daughters and three grandchildren. I almost forgot to add driving around town in my 1996 Mustang Cobra convertible. Reminds me of my red Corvair convertible at Northeast but without the mechanical problems.

Ralph GAY THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES  Thanks to Steve, Bill and the rest of the volunteers for a great reunion. I'm presently in Kiev, Ukraine on vacation but the memories are very fresh in my mind of the great weekend we had at the reunion. I haven't seen some of the classmates in almost fifty years and it was nice to catch up on a lifetime full of events.
My brother, Mike (class of '66) and I continue to talk about the good time we had and when he comes out in a couple of weeks to visit me in Scottsdsle, Arizona, I'm sure we will still talk about it. Thanks again to everyone involved for putting on a great event.

It seems to me you are all now qualified to start a business arranging large events! Then again with all the time and effort it took to pull off such an amazing event, you probably won't want to add "event planning" to your resumes!
I am just so very glad that I went to our 50th reunion. It was terrific spending time with all of our dear high school friends plus we were even able to see some of our favorite teachers. My what a truly amazing class we have. So many successes and lots of love and happiness in the lives of our high school friends.
I'm looking forward to future reunions in the years to come. In the meantime, may good health and joy be part of every day of each of your lives.

Joan BLOOM WOW! I'm also having a tough time coming down from the high I received from our unbelievable reunion. Many thanks to Steve, Bill, Bernie, Nancy and the others who helped make the weekend a smashing success.
Thursday night at BoKampers, Friday's cocktail party, golfing, school trip, Saturday Bar BQ and the Saturday night dinner dance gave everyone ample opportunity to meet and interact with as many fellow alumni and friends as possible. The reunion, I believe, exceeded everyone's expectations.
The mid-sixties was a great time to be in high school in South Florida. With Northeast starting in the cow pasture with seventh and eigth grade only, adding a class each year, our classes being on the small side, and so close to one another over so many years, gave the 1965-67 classes a special bond that few people ever get to experience. We were so fortunate. Getting to share those memories with so many of you was a true blessing.

It All started as soon as I entered the hotel and was so warmly greeted by Bill, Steve, Nancy, and Bernie and immediately realized that we were in for something BIG. From that moment on it was like live Fantasyland and We All had a leading role.

Howard FOSTER AFTER GLOW  Just wanted to tell everyone that my wife Barbara and I finally agreed on something; we both had a fabulous time at the 50-year reunion. I continue to feel warm fuzzies thinking about the great weekend we spent with all you really fine folks from years ago. We were a pretty neat group of kids back then and I believe we still are - kids that is - as evidenced by our eagerness to PAR-TY!
It’s sad that some of our classmates have passed away and couldn’t join us. We’ve lost some very special compadres over the years. They were all in our thoughts this weekend.
I want to thank everyone who threw dollar bills into my open banjo case while Henry Anderson and I played music in the hospitality suite. Henry and I split $13 altogether. Larry Campbell observed that had we been Pine Crest alumni, there would have been fives and tens tossed in instead of one-dollar bills.
To all of you who asked if indeed I named my first child “Grinnin’” – Nope, sorry. Could never do that to a child. Named him Kent Hardly Barrett instead.
Last but by NO means least, I must say I really appreciate getting the award for “MOST CONCEITED”. I will always cherish the mirror I received as a prize (see picture). I can now look at myself anytime I want. I’m having a cover made for it so it won’t get scratched. I was understandably miffed that the award was presented to me so late in the evening, as I had planned to give a lengthy acceptance speech.

The accomadations were the best, the service was #1, and most of all the food was "out of this world". I'm still "high in the sky" and will be for sometime. It was great seeing everyone and sharing old stories and new successes. I feel I have friends forever.

Tim MOON FIRST REUNION EVER!!! First off "COWABUNGA DUDES". Sorry people, couldn't resist that. Had no idea Reunions were as fun as this one was. For me it was one dream of a life time as corny as it sounds and a memory I'll treasure for ever. I would hope everyone that attended and those that couldn't attend will consider themselves as my BFF.
It was nice to know that even though time had changed and things in our personal lives did so too, the individual classmate hadn't changed at all as a person. A Royal Chorus to the head organizers and thier wives for all that they did, and a huge thank you to the two awesome entertainers ("Banjo" Bob Barrett & Andy "formerly known as Henry" Anderson) in the Hoot n' Nanny room. It reminded me of the one ones that were held in the gym. They sang a song for me that I performed with my guitar in the gym for one of N.E.'s Hoot n Nannys and it was a total blast.
A special thank you to the wife that gave me my very own spirit dolls. I'd mentiond that all I had for material memories of school was my class ring and that I'd still have it today had it not gotten stolen out of our house during a burglary. She said I deserved them more than she did. You know who you are. Awesome lady is all I can say.
It was a pleasure to meet anyone I'd not not met before and to reconnect with those that were in my class. Thanks to everyone who attended for making my first reunion one I'll treasure forever and will consider attending in the future.
I contacted the hotel to praise the staff the staff to Vanessa, Some people don't take the time to let them know how much we appreciated them and as far as I was concerneed, from the staff to the front desk, the waitresses, Maricio the Valet manager who was awesome and Donna who worked the gift shop. Job well done. Vanessa said she'd let her employees know. Hope everyone stays happy and healthy.
And OH BTW Steve Evans, I think I hugged more good looking men than you did beautiful women. I was there 4 days. Gottcha!!! :-} So hats off to 65' 66' and 67', WE DID IT AGAIN.

Art FREY WONDERFUL REUNION  Thank you so much Principal Steve Meyer and Mrs. Bernie Meyer and Head Coach Bill Springer and Mrs. Nancy Springer. Thank you so very much for all of your many hours of hard work. Could not have had a better time. So many old memories brought back and so many new ones to cherish also. Our three classes have had so much success in the post high school years and I enjoyed listening to and hearing about each and every one of the stories told to me.
Could not have been a better time to be a teenager in high school in Ft. Lauderdale, Florid. The teachers we had, the classmates we had and the parents we had gave us the correct morals & values to succeed in our lives. We were, and still are, a very special breed. One that seems to be vanishing from the American landscape.
May I say thank you again to the four mentioned above, all of the other committee members and especially to everyone who was able to attend as YOU ALL all made it a wonderful weekend for Linda and I. I have never hugged so many beautiful women in one 3 day period. :-)

I thought I might at least drive down for the evening at Bopkamper's but it's looking like that won't be possible either. I will be thinking of all of you and hope everyone has a great time. If you are ever in the Saint Augustine area, give me a call I'd love to play tour guide or just have some lunch.

Pamela PRICE REMEMBERING BRENT SMITH  Brent Smith was my best friend and "brother from another mother" for over 55 years. He passed away August 8th and will surely be missed by me and everyone who was fortunate enough to have known him.
A few months ago Brent received an invitation for our 50th high school reunion...... he was absolutely ecstatic!!! I can still remember that day because he called me ranting and raving about seeing his old friends again. I guess you could say he was popular, but not in a vain way, he was just one of those guys who made friends easily wherever he went. Many of you might remember that Brent didn't graudate from Northeast but was invited to the reunion because Steve Meyer deemed him "an almost '66 grad" because he knew everyone and was well known and well liked by everyone...... he was one of us- just an all around really good guy.
Brent and I had 55 years of laughs and great memories. In 1964 it was "cool" to cruise the strip from Jerry's Drive In to the Bahia Mar Yacht Basin. Brent and I used my Dad's '64 Pontiac convertible for the adventure but not before going behind the "Federal Drive In" to remove the air cleaner and hub caps so as to cruise "the strip" in style. LOL!!!
On another occasion, we were going to a formal dance of some sort that required us to wear tuxedos. Just as we were leaving to pick up our dates, my Dad saw we were both wearing our "white sox" and Dad had a fit. He made us remove the sox under the threat of "no car' but we were able to smuggle them out anyway.
My fondest memory of all was when Brent introduced me to Christine, my future wife of 33 years at a 9th grade pep rally down at the "Old Ft. Lauderdale High" campus. Thanks Buddy. I'm quite sure Brent will be attending the reunion in spirit.......... So as Brent would have said (and did many times) "Let's all have a beverage, I'm buying!!!"

Joel MILLER WONDERING ABOUT ME???  Some nights I'm sure many of you lie in bed at night wondering whatever became of me. Now you can rest easy knowing I'm not far from Ft. Lauderdale, living in Punta Gorda with my wife Barbara. Here we are hanging out in Breckenridge, cooling off in the mountains this summer.
Ah, for the days of cruisin A1A in Ken Jones convertible with the top down, and for striking up conversations with the chicks at Jerry's Drive In. Loved high school- the great friends, girls, parties, sports, Friday night dances at the National Guard Armory, Wolfies restaurant, water skiing on the Intracostal, watching the submarine races at the beach. What a neat time and place to be a teenager. Really looking forward to sharing some memories with y'all at the reunion this week.

Dennis BARNHARDT FROM COLORADO  I was in the 1965 first graduation class, and it was my only year at NE High. My family moved to Ft. Lauderdale in the summer before classes started, so I located the marching band at summer practice and ended up playing clarinet in the school marching band. I made friends there, like Drum Major John Slagter, who has remained a friend all these years. Patty Hickman, who was a majorette befriended me, one of the very first people to do so after my move to Florida. Patty, I recall being your designated driver in an old car you had, maybe a 1950’s Kaizer. You didn’t tell me the brakes barely worked. I joined a rock band that Craig Reid (class of 65) asked me to play in. We are still good friends. See his comments in the Message Board about other Northeast rock bands members. Many of them have kept music a major part of their lives. And if you want to know almost anything about other bands that were playing in South Florida around at that time, ask Craig.
I went on to graduate from the University of Florida then eventually moved to Colorado where I have lived with my wife, Karen, for 43 years. Our 3 kids also live in Colorado. After a first career in corrections, I was in the housing business here in Colorado before I retired a couple of years ago. Karen and I travel when we can. For some of the closer destinations we go in a small plane I enjoy flying.
I will not make it to the upcoming reunion, but I have many fond memories of that one year at NE High and send my best wishes to all of you.
Andrew D'AMBROSIO ROZ and I ENJOYING THE GOOD LIFE IN THE BADLANDS  Looking forward to seeing all my old Hurricane friends. Gotta a kick out of seeing Dick Ott in the picture at the restaurant. Hope to find out how my old Cardinal Gibbons friends are doing too.

Larry CAMPBELL BOB NEILSON  Our good friend and classmate passed away the night of June 5th. I had just spoken to him that morning about some reunion news. Bob and I reconnected about three years ago and became close during that time. Last Fall when the reunion plans began taking shape, Bob was very excited about going as the last reunion he attended was 1996.
He was so excited about the reunion he was calling me every week or so wanting contact info on old classmates so he could call them (he was VERY computer adverse). The call I had with him the day he passed away I gave him contact info for several classmates. Bob had been struggling with health issues the last 12 months but the last few months he seemed to have the issues under control and had a super upbeat and positive attitude.
Bob was a consummate athlete at Northeast, winning several awards over a three year period in football and track. Two brief funny stories: Bob, Toby Newsome and John McLane would steal bamboo stalks from the Mai Kai to use for practice high jump bars. He also told Steve Evans he was ticked off when Steve didn't play football Bob's senior year because without Steve as quarterback he didn't get as many passes thrown to him.
Bob went on to to play football at and graduate from Austin Peay State University. He then received a Doctorate in Education from Middle Tennessee State University. He actually spent part of his teaching career briefly at Northeast. Bob eventually taught at the collegiate level for many years at the University of Guam (yes, he came all the way "back home" for the 1996 reunion) and taught Secondary Physical Education.
Bob retired about five years ago in Murphy, NC and built a beautiful mountain home with a view, as Bob once told me "was as good as God has". Steve Evans ('66) rode his cycle up and spent a day and an evening with Bob this May and he said Bob was very happy there.
There is a Memorial service for Bob 11 am Thursday July 2nd. Here is a link BOB MEMORIAL for information about that if any of you are close enough and want to attend. It would give great comfort to Bob's sister Flo and his nephews to hear some remembrances about him. One of Bob's best friends from Austin Peay, Chip Whitaker at wwhit88481@aol.com is collecting anything you'd like to say about Bob. Also, Bob's nephew Darrell Rushton at dsrushton@frostburg.edu is collecting pictures you may want to send.
In closing, this picture of Bob on his back deck was taken by Steve Evans on his visit in May. As he was taking the picture, Bob asked Steve "I did real good here didn't I Steve" and Steve told him "you did better than good Bob, you did GREAT!!". In fact, Bob passed away in a chair on the deck doing something he loved: seeing "a view as good as God has". Bob was a great guy and he will be sorely missed at our reunion, especially knowing how excited he was to be going. We WILL hoist a drink to him while we tell "Bob Neilson" stories about our surfing safaris, beer bashes and general all around high school hell raising.

Steve MEYER REUNION PROCLAMATION TO BE POSTED IN YUKON TERRITORY CANADA  Hear Ye, Hear Ye- All Alumni, Knights, Ladies and Noblemen: A "50th Reunion Proclamation" has been issued and will go forth to the Kingdom and Beyond. Word will spread about the Mighty Hurricanes and their gathering this August that will have much food, drink and merriment.
The Proclamation was designed by the fair maiden the Duchess of Burke, the lovely and talented Barbara Sheridan. The Proclamation is 20" X 8" and flies the Mighty Hurricane Battle Flags. It is made of cedar wood and is weather protected for the outdoors. It will be hung in the Sign Post Forest (Google it) at Watson Lake in the Yukon Territory of Northwest Canada.
It will be hung by one of the oldest Hurricane Knights, Steve Evans (surprising he can still mount up given all the replacement body parts he has). He will be riding his trusty steed (motorcycle) over 14,000 miles round trip up to Canada for a Charity Ride event for the SKI-HI Institute (for deaf children in Utah www.alaskabikerun.com). He will then hang this proclamation in the Sign Post Forest (not Sherwood) on July 11th. At that time the Mighty Hurricanes will be known and feared throughout all the lands.
A gathering of the Hurricane Kingdom will be held on Ft. Lauderdale beach starting August 13th to honor the Mighty Hurricanes with much merriment. The King hereby commands you to attend these festivities or face the consequences.

Ken JONES 50TH REUNION GOLF OUTING  NE Classmates- I hope all of you are planning on attending the 50th Reunion in August. The committee has done a great job putting this together and looks like we're going to have a terrific turnout.
Terry Stiles, Karin Ives Rhodes and I have been asked to organize a golf outing on Friday August 14th at Coral Springs Country Club. Tee times will start at 9:54 and the cost will be about $55. Karin has done a great job of getting some "memorable" and "topical" prizes for the many winners.
It's gonna be a very friendly and casual competition so don't worry about your handicap. I currently live in Connecticut doing audio visual and video conferencing work but I still keep my hands playing music. Now with my two sons. Life has been good. A big thanks to Steve Meyer, Bob Barrett and Art Frey for finding me and bringing me back into the fold.

Ken JONES WHAT A GREAT WEBSITE!!!!!  Because of this website Bob & Bonnie Hingson were able to visit us in our home in Lake City, FLA, I visited Kenny LaPointe & his wife Claire in their home, had lunch out with Kenny in Jacksonville Beach and dinner with Bob Neilson in Murphy North Carolina. Had phone conversations with Steve Meyer, Pete Byers, Jim McClain and Gary (Spook) Spohn. Traded e-mails with all of the above plus Dale, Gale & Barbara Burke, also Lori Liquori (Fill) and Ken Jones.
Not to mention all the postings and pictures that people have submitted for our viewing pleasure whether they be individual or from Bokampers. Remembered some memories and had fun catching up. I'm very impressed with many of our alumni as there are many many success stories out there and I'm happy for each and every one of them.

I'm really looking forward to seeing my old classmates that I've known from 4th grade on, including Everglades Junior High. Moved to Wisconsin to escape the congestion and humidity; even the blizzards haven't made me regret it. I miss the beaches and old friends and the reunion will be a great way to see both.

I have gotten together with Karin Ives Rhodes and Terry Stiles to get this done. Terry has graciously gotten us access to the Coral Ridge Country Club. Karin has graciously agreed to cure my shank. We may try to set up some sort of tournament format like a modified Stableford. Both men and women are invited to play.

Ken JONES SPRING BREAK IN THE HOLLERS OF WV  3/24/15
Hi ya'll Class '65 from the hills of WV. This is how we spend spring break in these here mountains. Can't believe it's been 50 yrs., when I feel like a spring chicken, but my cracked mirror tells a different yarn. After graduating from a small college in VA, I found me a real Mountaineer (Thomas "Ted", a WVU grad.) and we got ourselves hitched in 1968. Was a real shotgun wedding with his Daddy holding the 20 gauge while sitting on the living room couch.
After my man got an all-expense-paid trip to Vietnam, we have spent most of our hitched life living off government "welfare" in WV. Ted retired from US Dept. of Interior in 2004 and me in 08-08-08 after claiming to be an RN for 40 years. I worked in one of them new-fangled hospitals with machines and not just with leeches, snakes and moonshine. We still loves this here life living off govt. retirement and no work! Our kin is one son, Andrew (38), who has managed to stay out of jail so far; and one grandson, Thomas (12), who is a danged-near perfect genius. He even knew his ABCs before he got out of grade school.
We spend 11 months each year in Almost Heaven WV and the other month seeing the rest of these here United States. Dang, I still miss the ocean and that rotten, fishy air.
I still holler at my high school "gang of 6" . . . . Pam Lewellyn, Loren Olson, Lynn Stevens, Joan Bloom and sister Suz. Hope we can all make it to that there 50 yr. reunion. Will have to get our old jalopy off the blocks out back and crank up that motor . . . . Now, if only we can find some round wheels.
If you remember me, I hope the memories are good ones and bring a smile. In these 50 yrs., we hope your joys have exceeded your troubles, with health and happiness in the wake.

Had a super duper time Saturday seeing everyone at Bokampers! It was great being with people I haven't seen in over 30 yrs! Steve had some pictures from the 20th & 30th reunions! Great reminiscing and finding out Patti is doing well! She is an inspiration to us!
CHANGE-CHANGE-CHANGE: Yes, we've all changed a lot since 1965. It's not about how much we've changed. It's ALL about seeing each other and about remembering the great times and stories we can share! I remember being a hick from little old Bronson, Fla. Talking like a hick, feeling very insecure, and a girl after the dance on the black top walked up to me and asked my name! That was Judy LoCasale! Our friendship started! Great memories that grew!
So make a special effort to get to the reunion! Please make this a priority this year to be at the 50th!! I really cant't wait to see everyone and catch up.

Well, we had another great Reunion Facility Evaluation Team meeting last Saturday and we added some new team members.

Sue Stephens was in charge of limiting Terry to water only as he had just come from the Ft Lauderdale St Paddy’s Day parade kickoff (his company President was Grand Marshal). I’m not sure she succeeded in her duties. Lynda, Len and Bill brought some calm to the gathering to counter balance the exuberance of Meyer and Newsome. Toby has been very excited about reconnecting with his old friends, so drop him an email. Everyone had a good time catching up in a limited way over just a few hours. They’re all looking forward to having way more “catch up” time at the reunion.
It appears Bokampers is still our go to place for our Thursday night Pre-Reunion Gathering. HOWEVER, it may take a couple of more meetings there to make absolutely sure. Keep an eye out for an email from me so you can join us next time. The more the merrier!!!

OK, so here I am filling out my registration form and thinking what more can I do? Actually, I was thinking how many drink coupons I should order. But seriously folks, we have as usual, 10% of the people doing 90% of the work and I am NOT one of the 10%.
So what more can we do? I know the folks running the reunion have put together a pretty good budget. But as we all know there are always unexpected expenses that will pop up that our registration fees may not cover. Should we let the 10%’ers doing all the work pay for these? I don’t think so. I believe that leaves all the 90%’ers like me.
So when you are mailing in your checks for your registration fees put in a small donation (like Steve Meyer says on the website “$10 works great and more would be outstanding”) to help defray some of these costs. Also, thanks to all the other 90%’ers that have contributed to help keep our fees down.
Hope to see everyone on Ft. Lauderdale beach in August.

I'm Susan Connolly, Class of '65. My husband Joe and I had a great time at the last reunion. I am so happy to see that Patty Hickman Hoffmeyer is doing so well. We live here in Costa Rica half the year and near Cape Cod in the warm months. I retired from teaching a few years ago, and I'm proud to say both of my sons are now teachers in New Jersey. To all my Northeast Alumni friends, this reunion is going to be the greatest one we’ve ever had. Fifty years have gone by so very fast, but our high school memories of Northeast live in our hearts forever.
If you have never been to a reunion, I guarantee you this is the one you need to attend. My husband and I have been to all of the past reunions and seeing classmates and old friends makes you feel like a teenager again. Curt and I met when we were just 16 and married in 1967. We have 2 daughters and 5 grand children 18, 16, 6 and 2 year old twins (a boy & a girl).
Northeast was a special school to me and all of you are special to me also because of all the great memories we made together. So please try to come. I promise you’ll have an unforgettable time just like you did as a teenager in 1965. I hope to see you there.

Patty Hickman, our very first Football Queen and Captain of the Majorette team, and her husband Curt Hoffmeyer just visited me and Bernadette (Maglocco '65).
For all of you that were at the last 2 reunions, you were treated to Patty wearing her 53 year old majorette uniform and leading us in singing the alma mater while she performed her baton routine. Absolutely amazing and I'd recommend coming to the August reunion just to see that.
Patty brought along a TON of old pictures (from school days, our '75 and '85 reunions, etc) and we had a great time looking at pictures reminiscing about the great times we had. A number of her pictures will end up in a slide show and an online album (which reminds me to ask you to send me all the old pictures you might have).

Karin IVES Hi there. Living in Lebanon, TN for the past 45 years but I often think of the days of growing up in Ft. Lauderdale and good times at Northeast High. Judy DIMON Hello from Virginia  Hi All! I've been living here in central VA for 32 years with my wife, Christine (graduate of Coral Gables HS). We have 3 kids and 5 grandkids. I still play my bass at home but, for now, haven't been in a band due to arthritis and back problems. You guys might remember The Noblemen, Sidewalk's End and Axis - all bands I was in between 1964 and 1973 down there. I'm still in touch with all my bandmates who are still with us - a couple NEHS grads - Terry Stewart and Ray Lenahan (whose brother John from class of '65 passed away last year in a tragic car accident), and Andy D'Ambrosio. We all remain best of friends after all these years. I wish I could make it down for the reunion but health and finances make that unlikely this year. NE was a great school and we did produce one stellar musician - Jaco Pastorius - I think he graduated in 1969. He went on to become the "World's greatest bass player" - no joke. He revolutionized the instrument and player in Weather Report on their incredible album - "Heavy Weather". He also played with Joanie Mitchell and with many, many jazz legends. You should go visit Jaco Pastorius Park on Old Dixie HWY if you haven't been there before. I wish you all a wonderful reunion and tip a glass to me - I'll be thinking of you... hey, maybe I could Skype in for some of it.

How often do you you have an excuse to stay on the beach in Ft. Lauderdale...and what a reason to be here?! 50 years of doing our thing, many of us are now retired and have the time for rememberances with the folks we started the "dream" of who we were to become.

We had a small but VERY motivated and determined alumni group that gathered at Bokampers’s Sports Bar on Saturday 12/27 to perform a “facility evaluation” for a casual gathering on Thursday night before the August reunion.

Big kudos go out to Arleda and Al for braving holiday traffic to get there from Jupiter and Juno. We had a wonderful three hours re-connecting (and in some cases really meeting for the first time) and talking old memories. We came to the conclusion that almost any facility will work as it’s the people that make it special. That doesn’t mean we don’t complete the rest of our “facility evaluations” in 2015, as we take our committee responsibilities seriously.
I heard from many other people wondering when and where the next “facility evaluation” meeting will be held so they can be involved (Butch Brannock, Warner Robins, GA & Steve Evans, Lake City, FL said they might even ride their motorcycles down). Considering I’m in Ft. Lauderdale about every 6 weeks or so, that means a minimum of another 4-5 “facility evaluation” meetings. Keep an eye out for an email blast from me. We’d love to see you.
There has been a giant early response from people from all three classes coming to the reunion. Keep an eye on the website for an attendee list. I’d highly recommend you get room reservations as soon as possible at the Ocean Sky Resort. Also, please get on the website to claim/update your profile so we have accurate information.

I retired from the Fort Lauderdake Police Department two years ago and although I still own an ocean front condo in Pompano, I primarily live in a condo on a golf course in Scottsdale, Arizona that I purchased eight years ago. I spend a lot of time riding my three Harley Davidson Motorcycles and I do a lot of traveling, domestically and to foreign countries. This past year, I traveled to Panama, Cancun, Mexico and I was in Brazil during the World Cup. I enjoy snow skiing, so twenty years ago, I purchased a condo in Breckenridge, Colorado and I travel there every couple of months. My brother, Mike (class of 66) is visiting me in a couple of months in Scottsdale and we are planning to attend the reunion. I look forward to seeing my classmates (67) at the reunion.

Gary M. Chapman my wonderful husband of almost 47 years will not make this reunion with me. Gary died on April 5th of this year in an auto accident. On August 13th we would have been married 47 years. We have 3 wonderful children and 8 grandchildren ranging in age from 3 years to 27 years. Gary was always talking about what he, Steve Meyer and Bill Springer used to do and he left nothing out. So boys: be afraid, be really afraid.

OK friends, it's me again harping on the same tune- COME TO THE REUNION!!! The only excuse for not going to the reunion, IMHO, is health. Some of us old folks are in poor health and can not make the trip but if you think you live too far away just think of me. I am traveling 9,600 miles from Thailand to Ft. Well, not to say a lot, but being the first graduating class of Northeast was very much a great big happening for all of us. Between the portables, the cow pasture, the old Fort Lauderdale high school, things were very special to all of us classmates. Things were so much easier back then than they are today. And we thought it was the worse of all.
Now that I am older and I hope a little bit more wiser, things look a lot different now. I had the best of friends and am still in touch with them. I am semi-retired and still working at a job that I enjoy doing, I sit with people of all ages and just love listening to them talk about their lives during World War one and two. Makes us all think just how lucky we are to live in a free county.
I was married for 31 years to a wonderful man, he passed away thirteen years ago. We have two wonderful chirldren,(son, Edward, and daugther, Tina), We have six grandchildren, three girls and three boys. One in the Air force, one in college, two that will grauduate this coming spring, one in third grade and one in kindergarden.
I hope that I will be able to come to the 50th reunion this time. So looking forward to seeing so many of my friends. I live in Lexingon , NC. near my kids and grandchildren. If at all possible I plan to come. Hope to see you all there.

Hard to believe we are approaching a 50 year reunion, where did all the time go? So many fond memories of all the crazy things we did back then, but we survived... And we made our mark in the world, started careers, travelled far and wide, raised families of our own. And it is so sad to read of those that are not with us any more.
As for me, I retired 4 years ago from the Palm Beach County Dept. of Airports after 22 years as a Contract Administrator. Best part of retirement is, I don't have to get up before the sun does any more!!! I have lived in Juno Beach for 28+ years, also have a home up in the mountains of Boone, NC, and enjoy traveling.
Looking forward to seeing everyone at the 2015 Reunion!!!

The young students of 65, 66 & 67 are now grandparents in the age range of 66, 67 & 68. We now all have the same hair color - SILVER. It was an innocent time back then and we loved every minute of it. A great time to grow up in Ft. lauderdale. I'm retired after 35 yrs with Delta Airlines (Supervisor) and then went into Law Enforcement and retired for a 2nd time. Married to "Linda Evans" star of Big Valley - no just kidding - but I am married to Linda Evans. Linda & I have 2 daughters and 3 grandsons and live in Lake City Florida. For all the mistakes I've made in my life it has really been very good to me. I have no complaints. At the gym 5 days a week and very much into motorcycling. Have taken many trips and even Iron Butt Rides. Just got back from Canada & the western states (Sept) and next summer I'm going to Alaska & back. My best to everyone.

Today would be an appropriate time to say how grateful I am for the time spent at NE. I'm also pretty happy to be included in this reunion because I went to NE for 8th, part of 9th and 10th grades but graduated from Fort Lauderdale (blame my parents for moving).
I have remained friends all these years with Joyce Biruk, Lorraine Luccarella and Lynda Walden and really treasure my long time friendships. Lately we have reconnected with Kenny Jones and some of his merry band of pranksters.
I am looking forward to the reunion and can't wait to find out if Bob Barrett did in fact name his son Grinand.

The year was 1961. I was in the 9th grade. There were about 30 of my classmates hanging out in front of one of the portables (remember those?) before the start of the first class of the morning, you know, socializing. A few 8th graders were mixed in with the “cliquish” group of regulars. Muffet –aka Martha Wilkin – sauntered over toward me. She looked me up and down and stated, “You look good in blue.”
This is where things got tricky. I thought she had said, “You’re in a good mood.” Naturally I replied, “I know.”
Muffet looked aghast, placed her fist in front of her jaw, and proclaimed, “Conceited, you’re so conceited.”
She then whirled around and commenced to shout, “Bob Barrett is conceited, he’s so conceited!” She repeated this over and over, making sure everybody standing in the group that morning got the message. A message, I fear, she repeated numerous times during the ensuing years.
50 plus years later I wish to go on record as maintaining that I am not – despite the nasty rumors and defilement of my reputation – conceited. Highly self-assured certainly, but hardly conceited. True, I am usually in a good mood, and yes, I do look good in blue, but I AM NOT CONCEITED. Just wanted to straighten this out before the big reunion.

Graduated from Florida State...GO NOLES!, spent 4 years in the Army (low draft #), and spent the past 44 years manageing and directing food and nutritional services for mostly health care organizations from Florida to Virginia. Raised 4 kids: a Pod Caster in San Francisco, an EEO coordinator in Missouri, a Psychologist in Chicago...who gave me 2 beautiful grandaughters, and my son Erik who passed away in 2011.

Sandra BATTLE Hey Chris Healy Jodie moved to Maryville Tennessee shortly after graduation from NHS. There he met the love of his life, Susan Godfrey. They married in 1966. He became the department head of the physics machine shop at the University of Tennessee. He was sent all over the US to head projects for the government as well as big bussiness.
